Short Story Adaptation:

The Black Cat
Collaboration:
For collaboration, I chose to collaborate with Liam Hing & Insub Kim's group. Liam and I benefited each other, by he helping out with filming and acting in my movie, while I also helped out acting in their movie.Throughout the process of making this adaptation video, I had to collaborate and communicate with a lot of people to complete the task. And it was really cool, to help out with Liam's filming, and learn different techniques from him. Liam used a range of camera angles and express different emotions throughout the scenes with different camera angles, which was really surprising what it could do. Also, Liam helped me control the feelings and vibe throughout the scene, he showed me how and which angles and lighting show which feeling, that the audience might feel, which was pretty cool learn.
Extension of skills:
-goal
-Progress
- My goal for this film was to show the emotion of sadness, emptiness, and darkness. I really wanted the audience to feel the emotion I wanted them to feel. I had to find new ways to express that, and I wasn't really sure how to. So, I did my research, and I tagged along on a few filming trips, and I learned what people did and used. I learned to use down angles, making it look like a first perspective. I had to borrow a tripod that hangs while I'm filming, it was actually a new skill developed. I bought a new one and I can't wait for future filming projects to use it again. The progress was slow and long since I had to make different kinds of perspectives. But, I slowly developed, and I learned a lot of new things.
Perseverance:
- Delay in achieving success.
- I had multiple failures and delays in the way. One of them, being in a group of one, I put myself ina disadvantage, thinking I could finish it myself. I had a couple setbacks on filming, concerning other subjects, and it was hard to make time for filming. And, before I started filming, my camera had a small problem, so I had to take it for a fix to the camera/computer center.
Innovation:
Using editing software on my phone and laptop, I tried to make some cool effects on the video, making it look like a silent era film. Initially, I planned to end the story with an mysterious and cliff feeling. In addition, I added a message towards depression, which is my main story, which effectively builds a strong connection among these elements included in the message. I've always had a problem with making my message clear in my videos, so this time adding a message at the end, includes the feeling from finishing the video and a clear message. And also, being so focused on the particular theme or concept, which sort of gives it a limitation. However, in this adaption experience, I certainly developed innovations in editing because I demonstrated a deeper meaning in ideas in cinematography.
Comments on my Script:
Sally & Cindy:
They mentioned that I should Italicize the emotions of the characters/actors and put them on a different line. I also needed more camera angles included in my script and needed to express the emotions and mood explained on set and directly at the script. They also mentioned that my screenwriting should make the movie leap off the page. Which really made me think about how to make it spicier and exciting to read.
Insub & Liam:

They mentioned that there were more words than camera angles & scenes written when it should be the other way around. They also said to add more action, and sometimes fewer words, they said it'll make it more mysterious and to leave the minds to the imagination. Leaving the audience on a cliff and really make them realize what's going on around them. But overall, well done! Just work on adding more details to your script, on what's happening in the background while you film.
